Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness Course (DMEP)

Course Description

The American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) DMEP course is a one-day course that is both didactic and interactive. It addresses core competencies as outlined by the ACS Committee on Trauma’s Disaster and Mass Casualty Management Committee. Major topics addressed include planning, triage, incident command, injury patterns and pathophysiology, and consideration for special populations. Small group discussions are based on illustrative scenarios. DMEP requires pre- and post-course tests, which are reviewed on site.

Stroke Symposium

The dual track (professional/community) will serve as an educational venue and will be open to healthcare providers, stroke survivors, and caregivers interested in advancing knowledge in various stroke related topics, promote understanding of stroke management, research, and to raise awareness regarding best standards of stroke care. Speakers who will include physicians, nurses, therapists, lawyers, chaplains, pharmacists, as well as stroke survivors will discuss topics including stroke prevention, rehabilitation, vision disorders, dizziness, depression, seizures and stroke research as well as legal issues and spasticity management.
