Let me welcome everyone to the new year.  It brings us many exciting times and opportunities. ENA is a member driven organization. It IS your professional organization.

Maryland ENA has many opportunities to become involved.  What are your areas of interest?  Education, nursing practice, injury prevention, advocacy and policy development or communication. In all these areas, there are opportunities at the chapter or state level.

Education includes not only working with our state conference -ENA by the Bay but also presenting or finding presenters for your chapter and state meeting.

Nursing practice is exciting and rapidly changing as we look at new or revised position statements from ENA along with new practice changes based on evolving evidence.

A foundation of emergency nursing practice is Safe Practice, Safe Care. Incorporating this concept  into stretcher-side and public out- reach injury prevention across the lifespan is a vital part of our practice.  This encompasses two areas of focus: quality patient care and a safe environment for nurses and patients.  If this is your interest, please let me know.

Advocacy and policy development  will be a big project as we address the promotion of safety.  Safety in patient care but also safety for nurses and those who interact with patients as we collaborate with stakeholders to address workplace violence  not only in our health care facilities but also as we look to address these issues with the legislation.

In order to successfully meet the needs of our members and our patients, we need to develop effective and varied means of communication.   Communication enhancements is an area where we really need to work.  What is the best method for exchanging information?  Is it via email, web site, blog, twitter ( a media which I have not embarrassed yet) or Facebook?   Do you like to write - maybe writing a Maryland ENA update for the ENA Connection?  Are you great at web design?  Do you tweet or blog or do prefer Facebook?   Do you want to get periodic emails with events or important information related to ENA?  I will be sending out a blast email with a survey monkey link to ask these question.

As your Maryland ENA State Council President, I am here as a resource and facilitator but I can not do this effectively without your input and assistance.  That is my challenge.

My challenge to you as members of Maryland ENA focuses on what do YOU want or expect of ENA. Think about this and let me know.
