May 2010
Greetings to my fellow colleagues, leaders and members.
As
the spring season emerged from around the corner and
pushed the cold winter away, the Maryland State Council
went into full speed in gearing up for and finalizing
our Annual State Conference, “ENA BY THE BAY”. Having
Diane Liebeskind as the Chair of Education Committee and
this conference inspired us with enthusiasm and we were
all energized to work with her in making this conference
a successful one.
Needless to say, it was a
success as attendees and participants alike remarked
that the May 7th, 2010 conference held at the MITAGS in
Linthicum, Maryland was excellent.
I
just wanted to congratulate and thank everyone on our
ENA BY THE BAY Conference committees. From the
preplanning to registration to presentation of speakers
and the post conference debriefing and state meeting at
the end, everything went smoothly. If it weren’t for all
our involved members, we wouldn’t have had such a great
event. Many thanks to
-
Lynn Brown for her time
in obtaining the continuing education credits
-
Sandy Waak for
her computer skills in flyer development, registration
sign in sheets and educational certificates
-
Jeff Jefferies
for collecting and collating registrations and
-
Anne May for her smile as
she greeted everyone during registration and throughout
the conference.
I
especially wanted to thank the featured speakers who
took the time to prepare for and present at the
conference. Helen Bradley, Marla Johnston, Dr. Shireen
Atabaki,
Gail Lenehan and Dennis Jones, all delivered excellent
presentations. I’ve received more than a few emails
saying how much everyone enjoyed not only the content of
the presentations but also the delivery that included
clinical and professional expertise and some of their
good humor and wit.
Of
course none of this would have been possible if it
weren’t for the generous contributions from
Franklin Square Hospital Center and the sponsors
such as Acuity
Medical, Baxter, Cumberland, DHMH, MIEMSS, Ortho-McNeal
Janssen, Shore Health System, University of Maryland
Medical Center, Walden University and Z Medica.
I
hope we take the lessons and success we’ve experienced
during this year’s conference, and ride that tide to an
even better conference next year.
For
those who missed the opportunity to come and join us, we
have already decided on a date for next year’s
conference. Save the date and plan on being there next
year on April 15, 2011 once again being held at the
Maritime Institute for Technology and Graduate Studies
(MITAGS).
Respectfully submitted,
Josefina “Pen” Jarina
