  Happy New Year! Isn't it amazing that it is 2003. It seems that just yesterday it was 2000 and we were scared about Y2K. 

  I have only been your state ENA president for a little over 2 weeks and my phone and email have already seen the impact. I have this week alone, been contacted by 2 legislators for our opinion and support for state and federal legislation. Looks like it is going to be an exciting year in Annapolis and Washington. 

  Remember! The Nurse Reinvestment Act (NRA) was passed by both the house and Senate, but it was not funded. Senator Barbara Mikulski is fighting for funding. Please call her office at 202-224-4654 and tell her you support her efforts. 

  Planning is well underway for our annual education Conference" ENA by the Bay", May 8 & 9, 2003 at Turf Valley Resort. (OK maybe its ENA by the Golf Course!) We have excellent speakers planned and we are trying to make arrangements for a little pampering for ourselves. Please make plans to attend. 

  Thank you for voting in the state ENA election we received over 120 ballots (out of 540 members), a return of 22%. Excellent! The results are as follows: President-elect: Lawrence "Jeff" Jefferies Treasurer: Sandy Waak Secretary: Lynn Fleming Brown

  Over 40 individuals indicated that they would like to receive paper newsletters and we will be sending them out soon. Some members expressed dismay that they were not seeing any new names on the ballot. Lynn Fleming Brown is new to the state Board of Directors after serving as secretary for the Metro-Baltimore Chapter. We would love to be able to put other names on the ballot, but no other members came forward to run. If you are interested in being part of the board, please attend the state meetings or contact one of us, so we can help you get involved. We are more than willing to mentor anyone in any of these roles.
