From the Desk of the
President... ...
Another new year is a upon us and my hope to
all is that your 2003 was a good year. This is the time of year when
we reflect on where we have been and start planning for the year to
come. In this new year, we will be working with a new interim
executive director for National ENA - Cheryl A. Smart, MA, MBA. She
will be providing leadership for our organization while a national
search is on for a permanent executive director.
In planning for 2004, I would like to focus
on communication and the future opportunities that Maryland State ENA
has to offer. The first activity was the State meeting on January 21at
Fisherman's Wharf restaurant on Kent Island. The early part of the
year is the planning phase of 2004. Committee assignments are made and
your interest and participation is encouraged. These committees
include:
- Nominating - to select candidates
for the ballot of 2005
-
- Education - planning the state
conference, ENA by the Bay
Governmental Affairs/LMNO -
keeping the organization up to date on legislative activities that
effect our profession
- Membership - to acknowledge new
members and promote retention
-
- Website - to provide the latest
information and resources to our membership
-
- ED Manager SIG - to encourage
communication between ED Managers in the state to problem-solve
common issues facing Emergency Departments
-
- ED Educator SIG - to encourage
communication between ED Educators in the state to share ideas and
seek solutions to educational challenges
-
- ENCARE - working on injury
prevention educational offerings and projects
-
- Educational Committees (TNCC,
ENPC, CATN) - to coordinate and manage these offerings in the
state
-
- Ways and Means - to create fund
raising activities that also provide some fun for the membership
If you would like to participate in any of
these committees or have additional questions, please contact me by
email at jefferie@erols.com.
Please plan on attending our next State
meeting on March 24 at the Dough Roller in Crofton starting at 9:30
AM. For all other activities and events, please consult this website.
I would encourage you and your colleagues to become involved, share
your ideas and have the opportunity to learn something new. We look
forward in 2004 to you sharing your talents and time with others who
believe Emergency Nursing is something special.
Sincerely,
Lawrence "Jeff" Jefferies, RN,
MDENA President
