From the Desk of the
President...
January
2005
As we begin a new year we are often filled
with hope. This takes many forms. My hope for myself as well as for
you is for health and success. We want to be healthy and successful
both personally and professionally. As a result, New Year's
resolutions are made. Unfortunately we set unreasonable goals, at
times. This can be self-defeating. Let's set more attainable goals. We
know how to get fit and eat right. As a group, will you join me in a
professional New Year's resolution? My desire for us, as a group, is
to increase membership. Knowing goals need to measurable, let each one
of us recruit ONE NEW MEMBER this year. This is a way to easily double
our membership in one year! We all have different reasons for joining
ENA...education, networking, and much more. As Emergency Nurses, we
have an important gift to give society and an urgent message.
Promoting membership promotes our gifts and messages. Increasing
membership will help you and the one you recruit.
If you are reading this and are not a member,
we invite you to join us. My New Year's wish for you is that you would
enjoy the multitude of benefits that come with ENA membership. The
vast majority of professionals (in all walks of life) belong to their
professional organization. We need to do the same. How do you get
started? Well, you took the first step by going to our website. Also
check www.ENA.org.
Our website is updated monthly. Look for meetings near you. Think
about attending educational offerings such as The Leadership meeting
in Fort Lauderdale in March, our own ENA by the Bay in May or the
Scientific Assembly in Nashville in September. Our state meetings for
the year are as follows: Jan 19 6:30 pm at the Macaroni Grill in
Annapolis; Mar 23 at Rip's in Bowie 9:30 am; May 5 at the Maritime
Institute in Linthicum 6:30 pm; July 13 at Harris' on Kent Island
-6:30 pm; Aug 31 at Rip's in Bowie -9:30 am; Dec 7 Fisherman's Inn on
Kent Island -6:30 pm.
Speaking of meetings...I recently returned
from ENA National Headquarters. It was a joy and an honor. ENA, its
leadership and staff often are working on better ways to serve. This
particular meeting was for incoming state presidents. It was the first
time an orientation for state presidents was ever held. I'm grateful
and humbled. Grateful- because I am now better prepared to serve you.
Humbled due to that cycle of education we know so well...you know, the
more we learn, the more realize we didn't know. Our 2003, 2004 and
2005 ENA Presidents were there. They all spoke as well as our ENA
attorney and an Emmy award-winning reporter. We were toured through
the national office and warmly welcomed.
I look forward to seeing you at our state
meetings and would be honored to attend one of your local meetings.
