President's Message

From the Desk of the President... March 2006

Hello Maryland ENA members! One reason I enjoy being associated with ENA is that each member has the opportunity to put your own "2 Cents" in to the way the association is run. When I assumed office in May I was looking forward to the National Conference in September. Maryland ENA Delegates represented the state in good fashion. It made me proud to be an ENA member. Our members helped author and lead the charge at the National level to promote the change needed to continue to make our organization as great as it is.

Another exciting way that MDENA had a chance to participate in change is the "Rally at the Capital" in Washington, D.C. on September 27, 2005. It was another exciting way to see that we do have an opportunity to promote change in our daily lives and our work surroundings. The rally's purpose was to designate emergency medical services as essential public services as police and fire currently are designated. This rally made our legislatures aware of the Access to Emergency Medical Services Act that would increase Federal Funding to our Emergency Departments.

January 2006 brought new officers to the board. Tamra White, RN has joined the board as President-Elect from the Mid-Maryland Chapter. Her experience will be appreciated on the board. Our outgoing member Jeff Jefferies, RN serving on the board as immediate Past-President and on numerous councils throughout the state will continue to be appreciated as advisor and active leader within MDENA. It also brought the kick-off of the Emergency Department Collaborative that involves many of your Emergency Departments over 40 ED's are involved to try to create change within the hospital to better serve the citizen's of Maryland. You can find out more about the collaborative efforts by visiting the Delmarva/Maryland Patient Safety Center website at www.dfmc.org to see how we are participating in this ever changing effort.

This ever constant flowing tide of change has brought a new year and new opportunities for you to serve your organization. There are numerous committee positions open. There are chapter committees that would love your help as well.

By now you should have received our E-postcard inviting you to our annual ENA by The Bay in Ocean City Maryland. The conference topics are wide and expansive to cover all of your educational needs. We are looking for donations for the silent auction as well your participation in the conference. If you would like more information about the conference as it becomes available or if you have suggestions regarding your organization please contact me at david@davidmcallister.com

In order for the organization to meet its member's needs the organization has to be able to change and we can do that with your help. This is your organization please volunteer in any capacity that you are able. Your chapter will appreciate you and the state will appreciate you. Each of us can be proactive in making decisions that affect us as healthcare providers,
how it affects our patients, and how it affects our organization. You too can make a difference...but in order to make a difference you have to participate. Thanks for all you do for ENA and MDENA. I hope to see you at our annual conference and the other numerous activities that MDENA will be participating in throughout the year. Please look to
www.MDENA.org for all of your local ENA needs.

My contact information is listed below. I would love to hear from you.
