The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends that health care providers use Tdap (tetanus, reduced diptheria, and aceullular pertussis vaccine) instead of Td for routine tetanus boosters and wound management in adolescents and adults. This vaccine will provide the same level of protection against tetanus while stemming the continued rise in pertussis cases.
