Hylenex- It’s Back
For
those of you who missed hylenex (synthetic hyaluronidase that allows
subcutaneous infusion of fluids), it is coming back on the market and it’s
kick-off campaign was at National
ENA’s Annual Conference in September 2011 in Tampa Bay!
Cadaver Lab for EZ-IO
The most absolute
experience was being able to attend the Hands-On Cadaver Lab sponsored by
Vidacare. I actually had the experience of using the EZ-IO Intraosseous
Infusion system on an adult cadaver. What it demonstrated was that the
shoulder/humeral head was the easiest, fastest and best way to deliver IV
fluids and medications to the patient. As the major vessel area was
dissected away, I was able to see the speedy infusions flow directly into
the vessels and then the heart- made a believer out of me. I also practiced
removal of the IO in a safe and easy manner.

Thermo Scientific Procalcitonin Bacterial
Blood Test
When this test is
completed, you will be able to determine the sepsis risk to your patient. It
will delineate viral from bacterial causes of illness in the pediatric and
adult populations and can identify early sepsis thus reducing pt’s exposure
to antibiotics and intensive care admissions. Hospitals or labs need only
purchase the assay to run the test and it can be calculated on most current
machines. If this is not the case, the measurement device can be given free
to the hospital or lab by the company.

Vestagen Technical Textiles
Facts-
5-10% of all patients
acquire an infection while in the hospital
50% of healthcare
workers may be exposed to blood or body fluids
65% of nurses attending
patients have contaminated uniforms
You have to see it to believe it. It keeps the patient contamination away
from the caregivers (see below for details). Care of the garment is the same
as usual Vestex protection is easy to maintain. Simple home or industrial
machine wash and dry. Heat from drying and ironing actually regenerates
Vestex technology. Do not use fabric softeners and dryer sheets
with Vestex.

Repels Fluids and
Resists Stains
- Vestex™ contains a
flourine silicon dispersion that makes garments naturally
self-cleaning. Fluids literally bead up and fall off the garment.
- Vestex™
keeps contaminants away from your skin.
You stay clean and dry on this inside.
- Vestex™ creates a
microscopically structured surface so fluids, dirt and oils cannot
adhere to the surface, much like the non-stick surface of many plants.
- The technology
binds to the individual fibers of the fabric which keeps garments
breathable and highly durable, unlike a fabric coating.

Conventional Fabric Surface:
Conventional fabrics
have a large contact surface area and high adhesion level of fluids and
dirt. This leads to contaminated textiles.

Vestex™ Fabric Surface:
Vestex™ has a lower
adhesion level than untreated fabrics. Fluids and dirt particles lie only on
the peaks of the fluorine silicon dispersion. Fluids run off and, dirt is
repelled or can simply be rinsed off. Contaminants stay away from your skin.
Contains An
Antimicrobial
- Vestex™ contains a
silane-based quaternary ammonium chloride antimicrobial to prevent
degradation from micro organisms and to control odors caused by
bacteria. 2,3
- The antimicrobial
in Vestex™ has never been shown to allow microbial resistance or
adaptation. 5

You could imagine
Semeltec, the antimicrobial in Vestex, as a layer of electrically charged
swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the
C-18 molecular sword punctures the cell membrane and the positive electrical
charge zaps the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the
antimicrobial doesn’t lose strength and the molecule is ready for the next
cell to contact it.
Stays Clean, Cool
and Dry
- Vestex™
hydrophilic properties wick moisture away from the skin on the inside of
the fabric.
- This enables rapid
evaporation and stimulates the body’s natural cooling process.
- Vestex™ maintains
a professional appearance even when you perspire.
- Vestex™ resists
perspiration from being transported to the outside of the garment.
- Vestex™ dries
noticeably faster than untreated fabrics.6
- Vestex™ is
breathable to keep garments clean, cool and dry.
